"Church" San Onofre: West to Trestles

World known surf spots Church, Trestles and San Onofre are just south of San Clemente at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, the last stretch of undeveloped California coastal land from Santa Barbara to Mexico. Also known as the San Onofre Beach Club, Church is is at the mouth of the San Onofre Creek and is named after a church that once stood above the beach at about the 8th palm tree from the right.
Although done in the 21st Century, the painting has the “Old California” feel of the 50’s and 60’s. The artist left out the current fencing between San Onofre and the base and added a Woody and his blue 1951 Ford F1 pickup. To further to the earlier feel, the old Red, Yellow and Silver Santa Fe “San Diegan” runs towards Los Angeles instead of the Amtrak or Metrolink trains.
The rest of the scene is as it is today. “Lower Trestles” is visible at the top with “Uppers” just around the point.
Original oil on masonite has been sold.
